Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 7, 2026
At PDFtoMD, accessible from https://pdftomd.app, one of our main priorities is the privacy of our visitors. This Privacy Policy document contains types of information that is collected and recorded by PDFtoMD and how we use it.
1. Local-First Processing (Zero Uploads)
PDFtoMD is a 100% client-side web application. It uses a parser compiled in WebAssembly that runs directly inside your web browser. This means that when you drag and drop a PDF file, it is processed locally in your browser's memory. Your files are never uploaded to any remote server, and we have no access to your document contents, personal notes, or converted Markdown outputs.
2. Data We Do Not Collect
Because all document parsing is performed locally on your device:
- We do not upload, transmit, or store your PDF files.
- We do not store or see the converted Markdown text.
- We do not require user registration, sign-ups, or login credentials.
3. Third-Party Services and Analytics
While we do not process or store your documents, we use certain standard third-party services for website hosting, security, and traffic analysis:
A. Hosting and Infrastructure (Cloudflare)
Our website is hosted using Cloudflare. Cloudflare automatically collects standard server log data (such as IP addresses, browser type, and request timestamps) to routing traffic, provide security against DDoS attacks, and ensure website stability. This processing is performed under the legal basis of legitimate interest and complies with global privacy standards.
B. Cookies and Analytics
We use basic third-party tools to help us analyze website traffic and improve user experience:
- Google Analytics / Google Tag Manager: We use these tools to collect standard, anonymous internet log information and details of visitor behavior patterns (such as page views and feature usage). This helps us improve the user experience. Google Analytics may place cookies on your device to gather this technical, non-identifying data. You can disable cookies through your individual browser options if you prefer.
- Local Storage: We use your browser's localStorage to save your design preferences, such as your light/dark theme setting (saved as 'pdftomd-theme'). This data remains entirely on your local device and is never transmitted to our servers.
4. Data Security
Since we do not collect, transmit, or store your documents, there is no risk of your files being lost, exposed, or leaked from our end. You maintain complete control and ownership of your files and data at all times.
5. Compliance with Privacy Laws (GDPR & CCPA)
Our local-first architecture is designed with privacy-by-design principles, inherently aligning with strict global privacy regulations:
- GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation): Because we do not store or process your personal data (with the exception of anonymous analytics and essential server logs processed by Cloudflare), we do not transfer your personal data to third parties.
- CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act): We do not sell, rent, or share any personal information or document contents of our users with third parties.
6. Children's Privacy
Because PDFtoMD runs entirely in your browser and does not store any data on our servers, we do not (and cannot) collect personal information from children under 13. Since no user data is stored on our end, there is nothing for us to retrieve or delete.
7. Contact Us
